Overview of the DET
The Stanford test, known as the DET, or the Diagnostic English Test, is an online, computer adaptive test, designed to assess the English language proficiency of nonnative English speakers. The DET is completely online and is taken by test takers from home, unlike the traditional proficiency exams such as IELTS or TOEFL. The test evaluates four key aspects of language proficiency: Comprehension, reading, writing, listening, speaking.
Format of the Det test
You can appear for the Det exam of your choice.
DET Academic:
is the standard and most preferred exam, taken for admission, scholarships, and immigration processes. The test will be assessing your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in an integrated format.
DET Structure:
There are no separate levels like Foundation or Level 1–5. The test is adaptive and measures your English proficiency on a scale of 10–160, aligned with CEFR levels.
DET and UK Visas:
While DET is not officially recognized by the UK Home Office for visa purposes, it is accepted by over 4000 institutions globally, including many in the UK for admissions.
Det young learners:
Currently, there is no official version of DET designed for young learners (age 6–13). The standard DET is generally intended for candidates aged 13 and above.
DET Home:
The Duolingo English Test is conducted 100% online and can be taken from home anytime. It includes integrated tasks that evaluate all four language skills, and results are delivered within 48 hours.

Det Exam Eligibility: -
Students over the age of 16 years can take the Det Academic exam. The official Det website has not mentioned any specific upper-age limit. However, it is advised that candidates between 16-18 years of age must submit a parental consent form in advance.
Det Exam Date & Frequency: -
Det exam dates are available on multiple days across various Det test centers in the country. The test-taker needs to check the Det exam dates before registering for it. Candidates can select the time and date at their convenience.
Det Exam Admit Card: -
There is no admit card provided for the Pearson Test of English, and in most cases, your passport remains your valid ID. Other alternate forms of ID are National Identification Card, Military Identification Card, and a valid driver's license if the candidate is taking the test inside the country of citizenship
Det Exam Result: -
Det test results are released typically within 48 hours i.e., 2 days post-completion of the test. The score report allows the test-taker to quickly analyze performance on each of the individual skills as well as how each skill relates to the overall performance.
Det Exam Score Reporting: -
Det adopts an efficient online score reporting system through a secure online portal. The Score Report Code in the Det Scorecard offers a secure online verification method for universities and institutions, eliminating the need for physical prints or PDF files.
Det Exam Fees: -
The Det Exam Fee stands at INR 13,038, with an additional 18% tax (INR 2,862), bringing the total cost to INR 15,900.
Det Exam Score Validity: -
Det scores remain valid for two years from the exam date.
